With the Weathermen by Susan Stern

£90.00

United States: Doubleday, 1975.

First edition hardback.

Stern’s own account of her life and her anti-war protests with groups such as Students for a Democratic Society and the Weathermen, culminating in her trial as part of the ‘Seattle Seven’ and her imprisonment for contempt of court. Stern passed away the year after her memoir’s publication. Included here also is a news clipping of a paper announcing her passing, which the paper attributes to “an extended session in a sauna” (she died from drug-related heart-failure). Dustjacket has wear to edges and tears to the corners of the cover and back cover.

Small tears to bottom and top of dustjacket spine. Red faux-leather and black cloth board. Silver gilt lettering on spine. Very slight spots of fading to cloth on spine. Loose news-clipping inside is very thin and fragile. 376pp, last two pages blank. Unclipped page edges. 12 pages of black and white photographs in the middle of the book. Book contains a chronology of Stern’s life at the back up to the point of publication and previous owner (author Lisa Tuttle) has written in blue biro at the end of it on page 374 “July 30, 1976 dies in Seattle,” to complete the chronology. Very good copy.
