Grace Notes is a collection of 48 autobiographical poems and followed Rita Dove’s Pulitzer Prize for poetry for Thomas and Beulah in 1987. The daughter of a chemist, Dove was born in Ohio, and studied as a Fulbright scholar in West Germany. She was appointed US Poet Laureate in 1993 and now lives in Virginia and teaches at The University of Virginia where she holds the chair of Commonwealth Professor of English.
