Orlando by Virginia Woolf [Tauchnitz Edition]

Orlando by Virginia Woolf [Tauchnitz Edition]

£75.00

Leipzig: Bernhard Tauchnitz, 1929. First Tauchnitz Edition. 12mo. 280pp. + 32pp. ads.

Woolf’s iconic novel that also functioned as a love letter to Vita Sackville-West, Orlando has affected the public’s perception and idea of gender difference and sexuality on a seismic scale. This edition was printed to be affordable to readers in continental Europe by Bernhard Tauchnitz.

Publisher’s original first issue paper wraps with ads to rear panel dated February 1929, with the publisher’s catalogue to the rear dated January 1929. A clean, sharp copy with some minor edgewear and toning to the cheap paper stock of the catalogue, some tiny bits of trivial wear here and there including an open tear to top of dustjacket, which for a series of books with the projected lifespan of a snowball in a microwave, is really saying something. A very good example, published only months after the true first.
