Monday or Tuesday by Virginia Woolf
Monday or Tuesday. Hogarth House, Richmond: Published by Leonard & Virginia Woolf at The Hogarth Press, 1921.
First edition. Limited to 1,000 copies. Paper boards printed with black cover design by Vanessa Bell, brown cloth spine. Octavo. 91pp plus publisher’s advertisement at rear for other Hogarth Press titles. Four original woodcuts by Vanessa Bell with negligible offsetting (as noted in Kunitz & Haycraft). 195 x 130mm.
Virginia Woolf’s only short story collection published in her lifetime and an early publication of the Hogarth Press. Four of the eight short stories are paired with striking modern woodcuts that Woolf’s sister, Vanessa Bell designed. Includes, ‘Haunted House’, ‘An Unfinished Novel’, and Woolf’s short reflections on the colours blue and green. Only 1,000 published. Handset and printed by F. T. McDermott with Leonard Woolf’s assistance at The Prompt Press, Richmond.
A pinprick chip to paperboard at bottom edge of cover. Wear at top and bottom spine. Teeny chip on page 23’s edge. Slightest lean to spine. A little wear at edges but overall bright condition. This book’s print quality was rather poor, and is rarely seen in this wonderful form, it absolutely exudes the Bloomsbury style. We love when we have a copy in.
