This underread novel by one of the 20th century’s greatest writers might be compared to Notes from Underground and The Castle; a first person narrative of alienation, modernity and bureaucracy as a man tries to navigate an increasingly unsettling landscape. Peter Owen reprinted many of Kavan’s books in the mid 1970s with handsome uniform dustjackets designed by Keith Cunningham.

Very slight wear to edge of jacket cover. Original blue cloth board with silver lettering on spine (title, author, publisher). No clipping on jacket. Faint red star stamped in ink on bottom page edge from previous owner. Near fine condition of a very rare book.
